Soho’s famous Coach & Horses has become the first vegetarian and vegan pub in London.
Alastair Choat, landlord and co-owner of the independent pub,
explained more about the achievement: "This industry wastes so much
food, it is almost criminal.
We need to be more responsible, more sustainable and lose the ridiculous prejudices and negative attitudes towards vegetarian and vegan food."
Choat is a founding member of the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) and has converted both of his London pubs to a fully vegetarian and vegan menu. Located in the heart of Smithfields meat market, The Smithfield Tavern, is his second vegetarian pub.
Following a successful trial period during which new menus were devised by head chef, Lahiri Gregorio Balloni, previously at Manna, Primrose Hill, diners will now be able to choose from a variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes.
